The First Meeting of the PPRD East National Advisory Group was held in Belarus

June 13th, 2013 the first meeting of the PPRD East National Advisory Group (NAG) in Belarus was held in Minsk by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus and the PPRD East team.

The main competence of the National Advisory Group is control and monitoring of the project work plan implementation in accordance with the national priorities in the field of civil protection.

The NAG gathered 19 representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of health care, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Republican Hydro-meteorological Centre, Ministry of Housing and Utilities, other governmental and non-governmental organizations of Belarus and the European Commission Project Manager Lena Nielsen and PPRD East team.

The objectives of the first NAG meeting were to familiarize the members of NAG with the goals and objectives of the project; to discuss the current status of the project; review the draft project work plan till June 2014 to receive the participants’ feedback for the improvement of the performance of the project activities.

The PPRD East team leader Sergej Anagnosti and key experts dwelled on the PPRD East progress and presented the annual work plan including the development of the information system ERRA - Electronic Regional Risk Atlas. NAG members discussed the future activities and sustainability of the project results.

Ms. Nielsen, EC Project Manager, presented the Concept note of the second phase of the PPRD East and proposed to invite the Belarusian party to get actively involved in elaboration of the scope and activities of Phase II. The next phase of the project is expected to continue for 5 years (2014-2018) and its budget will constitute €5.5 million. This proposal was supported by the NAG members and they also agreed on the further steps in this direction.

 The next meeting of the NAG is to be in December, 2013 in Minsk.
